At this point, you’re either into your competition season or done with it so let’s talk about cleaning your dance costumes. It’s good to have everything fresh and clean for the recital or resale.
- Start by checking the label for directions.
- If the costume is machine washable, use gentle detergent in cold water.
- If the costume is NOT machine washable, hand wash with a gentle detergent or dish soap in cold water.
- Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water.
- Lay the costume flat to dry, avoiding direct sunlight or heat.
- If needed, steam to remove wrinkles.
How to remove butt glue
To remove butt glue from costumes, try using rubbing alcohol, baby oil, or a mixture of equal parts of dish soap and water. Apply the solution onto the affected area and gently rub it in. Then, rinse the area with water and repeat the process until the glue is gone.
How to remove deodorant
Use a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar to gently remove deodorant stains from dance costumes. Apply the solution to the affected area and let it sit for a few minutes before washing the costume as usual. Alternatively, rubbing alcohol or a damp cloth with a bit of dish soap may also help to remove the stains. Be sure to test any cleaning method on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure it does not damage the costume.
How to remove tough stains (like blood, makeup, and lipstick)
One way to remove tough stains from dance costumes is to soak the stained area in cold water and then apply a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and water. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary. Do not use hot water or bleach as it can set the stain.
Hope this helps. Just remember to be gentle and STEP AWAY FROM THE IRON. Happy Dancing!
