If you’re looking to take open classes in NYC this summer, then I have you covered! The next studio I’d recommend taking classes at is Peridance which is located in lower Manhattan. They value: support for artists, access to dance for all, and community engagement.
Peridance
Studio 3 – Peridance: Peridance is a smaller studio than Broadway Dance Center or Steps on Broadway, but still offers the same incredible range of classes and levels. They offer daily open classes, which are great for dancers who want to attend a class with a lower student count.
Levels. Peridance offers beginner classes from Popping, House, African, Contemporary, Dancehall, and more. Along with these beginner classes, they also offer classes in other styles for dancers looking for a challenge. For competitive level students, I recommend the Intermediate and Advanced classes.
Peridance also offers workshops in styles that you may not be able to take many other places. Some of these workshops include Pomare technique, Isadora Duncan technique, and many others.
Some of the faculty at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center also teach at Peridance, and their classes are of the same level, but generally with fewer dancers in attendance. This is great for a more personalized class.
Josh Assor: If you are looking for an upbeat and energetic musical theatre class, you might want to try out Josh’s class at Peridance. His classes are a good speed for learning choreography, his combinations often display his experience with traditional theatre style jazz.
Megz Alfonso: Megz specializes in street style choreography with a contemporary flare. Their choreography tends to be complex with touches of hip hop and contemporary techniques. Megz’ class has a super fun and comfortable environment for dancers of all levels!
