Lyrical dance is grounded in storytelling, and the costume needs to fully support that storyline in order to give the audience a complete presentation. Some stories need rhinestones and glitz while other stories need a pedestrian look. Below are 8 costumes with trending styles to help give you ideas and set you up for posting #beautifuldancecostumes all season!
Costume 1: Sleeves are hot right now and these off-the-shoulder flowing sleeves will add extra nuances to any beautiful sweeping movement. The material is soft, light, and see-through so you don’t lose the quality of the dancer’s lines. This costume says, you’re in the know with dance fashion.
Costume 2: What we love best about this costume are the 3 dimensional flowers! The texture grabs our attention and adds to the detail of your overall presentation. Pairing this detail with the sheer facile sleeves and glamorous rhinestones is a win in our book and sure to rule the stage!
Costume 3: Classic beauty! The monotone white almost fools us into believing this is an effortless costume, but then we notice the sweeping one-shoulder sleeve is purposely set opposite of the sweeping skirt, the 3 dimensional flowers add texture, and the rhinestones are a subtle reminder of its elegance. This costume is like a well practiced routine. We know how long it takes to make a beautiful routine look effortless!
Costume 4: Mint is still a popular color and the a-symmetrical sheer sleeve is sure to be the hottest trend this year. We love the slash of mesh (lined) material over the chest and how the appliqués effortlessly settle over the edges of the costume. This costume says, “I’m too amazing to be defined by straight lines”.
Costume 5: Here’s a costume base that can be left as-is or embellished. Again, we see the one sleeve look is making a statement, but this time it’s with lace. Lace is such a beautiful material, especially for Lyrical dances, and look how this costume intertwines it in the neckline and hip!
Costume 6: The crisscrossed neckline combined with the ombre placement of the rhinestones shows this designer has their finger on the pulse of dance fashion! Notice how the briefs are loaded with rhinestones, providing a strong visual foundation, then the appliqués and rhinestones softly snake up the right side of the costume, eventually fading to a flat white base on the left.
Costume 7: This costume fits a darker Lyrical piece that really plays on our emotions. The clustering of rhinestones and organized spontaneousness of their placement is reflective of a strong emotion trying to burst forth from the dancer. The sheen on the skirt adds a subtle sparkle and the sharp pattern of stones on the left side of the neckline give this costume an edgy feeling.
Costume 8: This is our staff pick for creatively (and successfully) blending multiple elements. We love how the sheer material of the sleeve is carried up to the neckline and rouged together at the bottom of the top. The craftmanship of this work alone is brilliant! Then add the diagonal appliqués that fall to the left side of the waistline, only to be combined with the contrasting white lines sweeping across to the right hip. Notice the white coloring in this costume is reserved for the right side and the plum color helps ground the briefs and left side of the costume. There costume could easily be the physical manifestation of a beautiful, complex storyline!
